Amerigroup Promotes Sustainability With Eco Fair
Company Partners With City of Virginia Beach to Highlight Local Sustainability Initiatives
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Friday, May 6, 2011) – Amerigroup Corporation (NYSE: AGP) hosted the Company’s Second Annual Eco Fair featuring corporate and civic sustainability partners. The event held on May 5, at the Company’s National Support Center campus, educated associates on green initiatives and resources.
“For Amerigroup, the Eco Fair represents more than just a single event – it’s a reflection of our approach to sustainability and giving back to the community. It provides our associates many ways in which they can make a difference,” said James Truess, Amerigroup executive vice president and chief financial officer. “The results we achieve as a product of being responsible community members not only benefit the environment, but they make good business sense as well.”
The event featured exhibits from 24 community vendors and partners, including the City of Virginia Beach, a local farmers market and nonprofit organizations. “The City of Virginia Beach is pleased to partner with Amerigroup in promoting the green initiatives available in our community,” Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms said. “Amerigroup provides an example of how a local business can help enable the city to be a more sustainable community.”
Amerigroup aims to be a community‐focused leader in environmental sustainability by implementing policies and procedures that help reduce its impact on the environment. To date, the Company’s sustainability achievements include more than 100 local associates participating in the NuRide ridesharing program, certification as an Environmental Protection Agency Green Power Partner and a commitment to source a portion of electricity through renewable energy. Additionally, Amerigroup is currently in the process of retrofitting existing buildings to maximize efficiency and workspace and maintains an environmentally conscious perspective in opening new offices.
