Amerigroup Donates Mobile Unit

Amerigroup Donates Mobile Unit to the Health Wagon

Donation Will Increase Access to Care for the Uninsured in Southwest Virginia

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Monday, Nov. 7, 2011) – Amerigroup Corporation (AGP:NYSE) announced today that it has donated a Community Outreach Vehicle (COV) to the Health Wagon of Southwest Virginia. The vehicle will be used as a mobile health clinic to increase access to care for the underinsured and uninsured in the region.

Due to the size of its current mobile outreach unit, the Health Wagon was unable to navigate many of the rural roadways in Southwest Virginia. The COV from Amerigroup will open these communities up to much needed care.

“The Health Wagon will be able to significantly expand patient census, and we are so thankful to Amerigroup for their support and for the assistance they are providing to our community,” said Teresa Gardner, executive director of the Health Wagon.  “Without their generosity, the Health Wagon would not be able to increase mobile outreach sites, or provide adequate care to non-ambulatory patients.”

Currently, the Health Wagon sees patients in Wise, Dickenson, and Buchanan Counties. With the installation of the new COV, the Health Wagon plans to increase mobile outreach sites in Scott, Lee, and Russell Counties.

“Amerigroup is proud to play a part in supporting the amazing work of the Health Wagon,” said John E. Littel, executive vice president of External Relations for Amerigroup and chairman of the Amerigroup Foundation. “The COV will help the Health Wagon meet its mission of addressing some of the unique challenges of health care delivery to the uninsured and underinsured in poverty-stricken areas of rural Appalachia.”

Amerigroup partnered with the Health Wagon for the 2011 Remote Area Medical Health Expedition in Wise County, Va., in July. The Health Wagon was one of several organizations that benefited from a $150,000 donation from the Amerigroup Foundation.
